Still learning how to deal with it, I am making an archive with all the emerge commands. pkgtool and slackpkg on slackware were so much easier/simpler. But not as powerful as portage. "With great power, comes great responsibility" I guess.

Well, now I have the time to sit down and tackle this Gentoo project. After 10+ years of using linux I finally got tired of installing different flavors for various reasons. I started out with Redhat 9 if I remember right then that stopped and I swapped over to Fedora. I was happy with that for years until they stopped caring about quality and started turning out a sub par product in my opinion. That and I got tired of reinstalling every 6 months to get the lstest version. I tried Ubuntu and wasn't impressed so I only used that for a couple months. Two months ago I found Sabayon and was really impressed with it until things started to break. I went to the forums for help and alyhough there were a lot of people logged into the room it took 24 hours before anyone responded. Even after I pasted the requested files into pastebin I never got a response back on how to fix the issue. Last week was the finsl strae ehen sn update broke network manager. I wasnt too concerned because I was able to get my network up and running but when I logged off it wouldnt come back up. After reinstalling twice and everything working fine except one small thing as the final update finished it was bricked again. So, I figured it was time to to man up and try Gentoo. If this message doesnt make much sense its because im writing it from my phone. Yep, first try at installing Gentoo didnt go ss planned! But I like the challenge so I'll try again later.

I'd watch out, Gentoo is insidious. Once you install it you can't help but go back to it

DesrtScrpn,

Welcome to Gentoo

Lesson 1 is Don't reinstall - fix it.
You will learn much more. All reinstalling will do is afford you the opportunity to not make the same mistake again.

Start a new thread. Post what you did, what happened, what you expected to happen and any error messages.
We need the error messages verbatim.

Oh, you can PB me a link to you post if you want.
