This is going to be difficult to explain. After one of the latest upgrades my gnome desktop is acting up.

For example in chrome, a right click on a link shows the menu, but when i move up/down the list it partially disappears. When I move back up/down it sometimes comes back.

This isn't limited to chrome.

If I do a 'make menuconfig' (kernel) and scroll up an down, my selection bar sometimes shows up all over the place.

On a normal terminal session, my typing line bounces up and down. Imagine typing and then suddenly you are one line up.

... not really sure what to look at. Probably some library that is fubar?

I suspect that, or broken ram. Or maybe a funky video driver.

Do you get this kind of weirdness outside X in pure console as well?

If not, can you test a simple standalone WM without compositing capabilities such as openbox?

if i am working from a console (ctrl alt f1), everything works fine. Same goes from within a VM or coming in from the outside.

I haven't tried a different desktop... yet.

So it all points to your graphics driver, probably in conjunction with the compositor.

I have the same issues.. I see some graphics corruptions since a few days now... Like the screen is not properly updated anymore, jumpy cursors, etc...

I am using nvidia-drivers-334.16-r7, which drivers are you using?

I am using the same driver. It is easy to re-produce on my system. If I have a gnome-shell session open, no matter if full or window mode, as soon as I am on the bottom of the screen it jumps up and down.

The jumping starts if I am on the bottom of the window, but not on the top of the screen. This just happens on the bottom of the screen.
