When I open a large text file in an xterm, I can use my mouse wheel to scroll though it. I cannot seem to do this with a man page. I have to use the down- or up-arrow keys to move through it. When I get to the end of it and type q, the page completely vanishes. Is there any way to make these man pages cooperate with the mouse wheel in an xterm?

How do you open a large text file in an xterm?
Are you using true xterm, rxvt-clone, or vte-based terminal?
I use 'less' as my pager for man (export PAGER=/usr/bin/less), and the scroll wheel works with man in my gnome-terminal...

I don't really get your question. In xterm I can type "cat ./filename.txt,", for example, and it opens the file.

Oh... When you mentioned large, I thought many MB's worth that will all scroll off the buffer and you were using vi or less or something like that to page it.

If that's the way you want to use it (less seems to work fine on my system with mouse cursor) you can do:

PAGER=cat man less

then it won't use the pager.

But I'd look into why less and your terminal emulator isn't working with the mouse wheel.
