Qemu Linux guest and Sound

When I got to the point of googling to find out what the audible range of frequencies is for human hearing, I realized that I was not on the right track for making sound work on my Linux guest, not even close. It just is not happening, and it may not happen in my lifetime at this rate, not unless I become a sound engineer & Linux developer in my spare time.

If anyone has sound working in this environment, please advise forthwith:

64-bit Hardened-Gentoo on laptop as host of Qemu/KVM with a 64-bit Linux guest or a 64-bit Windows 7 guest.
