I guess more than a few Gentoo KDE user will fine this currently 9 page Feb.16th article over on the Phoronix forum pretty interesting. I myself am of mixed feelings, pro or con regarding the nepomuk/akonadi/PIM ordeal of the last few years. Why (given that I now have better hardware), if they really replace or at least modify things for the better, I may even try Kmail and whatever new type of indexing layer appears. Anyone have any thoughts and/or more info on this development?

Please don't fall for that tabloid format. It's not like nepomuk work is thrown away altogether, but new developments have made the devs think a name change is warranted... now, there's big chance for change for the better, let's give it a try.

Yeah- thus the mixed feelings. I read the first few pages of the comments and I'd agree that there's some reason for optimism.

I'm looking forward to seeing what develops, and am keeping an open mind, as in theory I've always thought indexing is obviously a useful feature, but in the past has left a lot to be desired in its implementation.
