Quote:
TWO young men have died in Ireland, both apparent victims of the Neknominate drinking craze.

The body of the youngest victim, named as 19-year-old Jonny Byrne, was recovered from the river at Milford Bridge in County Carlow.

According to reports on social media he died after jumping in the river as part of a nomination.

Meanwhile Ross Cummins, 22, was found unconscious in a house in Dublin in the early hours of Saturday morning. Cummins was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards, the Irish Mirror reported.

The paper said it was understood he may have been drinking spirits at the time of his death. A video posted to Cummins' Facebook page a week ago showed him taking part in Neknominate.

I like how the whole article was about social craze called Neknominate and yet the writers failed to explain what Neknominate was or how it is propagated through social media. Instead they were sure to include a video of people acting there there in an MTV jack-ass video. I guess the idea is, "If your not in the know about what a Neknominate is then F you!". I thought news was suppose to inform you. The reason I'm pointing this out is because this is supposedly a news website, This is not Fred's Jack-ass-video site.

What I suppose what www.news.com.au was designed to get hits rather than inform people. The Video was there to skim off hits from YouTube viewers from people looking for a jack-ass style videos. The other hits were from fear and paranoia from parents on Facebook. This would be propagated by people sending to all the parents on there list.

Example letter wrote:
OH MY GOD, Cindy make sure your kids are not participating in Neknominate [link here], it will kill them. Be sure to send this letter to all your friends with kids, other wise there kids will wind up dead!!

Well, that was my rant about the state of news now-a-days.

All those people who make films, especially the ones who make nature films, are Democrats, and all Democrats are Socialists. Therefore, it was Socialists who murdered the lemmings.

The stockholders of Disney Corporation are certainly Capitalists. However, some nature documentary film director is certain to be a leftist. I guarantee it.

I had to google it, it's a 'social media drinkng game' apparently. Because drinking with your friends at the pub is no longer cool enough?

http://www.ibtimes.com/what-neknomination-social-media-drinking-game-fueled-huge-amount-peer-pressure-photo-1552978

But this article had one awesome quote

Quote:
A U.K. student who shared a Twitter photo of a pint of beer mixed with wine and cocoa powder and topped with marshmallows along with the caption ““#neknominate – what is uni?” says she thinks the game is relatively harmless.

And British universities were once the best in the world...

At least Australians can take credit for starting another fad taking hold back in the motherland. First saying "Crikey", and now this.

Granted. I was referring more to the bold quote and the state of UK universities, and that perticular person being quoted by The Guardian as a reliable news worthy source of information. Though, maybe this says just as much about UK media sources as it does about university students. I would be interested to know what 'degree' she is studying...

10 bucks on a BSc in JRandomLibArts. Buut yeah since it's the Guardian I'd actually give her the benefit of the doubt. They probably weeded through hours of interview footage to find the most outrageous comment ever.
