Hi

My laptop is in a desolate state. I don't want to go to gnome 3.X, but emerge wants to pull in a lot of ebuilds for gnome 3.X, and there are numerous slot conflicts, like.
Code:
!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

gnome-base/gnome-control-center:2

  (gnome-base/gnome-control-center-3.8.6::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    >=gnome-base/gnome-control-center-3.2[gnome-online-accounts(+)] required by (net-libs/gnome-online-accounts-3.8.5::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)

  (gnome-base/gnome-control-center-2.32.1-r1::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    (no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot)

dev-libs/libgweather:2

  (dev-libs/libgweather-3.8.3::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    >=dev-libs/libgweather-3.5.0:2= required by (mail-client/evolution-3.8.5::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)
    (and 1 more with the same problem)

  (dev-libs/libgweather-2.30.3::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    <dev-libs/libgweather-2.90.1:2 required by (gnome-base/gnome-panel-2.32.1-r3::gentoo, installed)
    (and 3 more with the same problem)

and may more.

I intend to move over to MATE, but i don't want to have any GNOME 3.X stuff being emerged.
How do i have to go about?
Do i have to install MATE and then somehow unmerge all of GNOME?
Is there a simple way to remove all of GNOME (or at least thos ebuilds that want to pul in GNOME 3.X stuff?)
Does MATE depend on some gnome 2 ebuilds?

Thank you
Jody

unmerge or at least deselect all stuff with "gnome" in package name, install mate and emerge -auDN world.
Also, you need layman with igt support as mate is only avialible from git overlay.
And check out stickies.... first link on top of this forum https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-980920.html should answer all questions
