Hi!
I've tried to update system (though I dislike updates and prefer to re-install system). Now after update I got a problem with my desktop.
After a certain amount of time without activity system switches monitor to powersave mode (the screen turns off) as it should be.
But I can't get my desktop back by moving mouse or pressing keys. The only thing I see on resuming is a mouse pointer upon black screen.
Attempt to switch to console (Ctrl+Alt+Fx) drops me to kdm login screen instead of console login.
Where shall I start to deal with this issue? Here some latest messages from kdm.log, though I'm not sure it is relevant to my problem:

Code:
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Warning:          Compat map for group 2 redefined
>                   Using new definition
> Warning:          Compat map for group 3 redefined
>                   Using new definition
> Warning:          Compat map for group 4 redefined
>                   Using new definition
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

After a reboot dose the system start normally?
What version of nvidia-drivers are you using?

I had a very similar issue on two of my systems that use the proprietary nvidia-drivers using the MATE desktop. Once the screen saver activated and the monitor would go to sleep I couldn't wake the system back up without rebooting. Masking the later nvidia-drivers solved my problems.

/etc/portage/package.mask
Code:

>=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-319.60

I haven't looked into the exact cause of the problem yet, but downgrading my nvidia-drivers sorted it out for the time being.
