going through the guides, as best as I can. it seems I am supposed to run

Code:
systemctl enable lvm.service

the result
Code:
Operation failed: No such file or directory

unfortunately due to a forced reboot my only way into the system is via chroot, I have since built the initramfs needed to boot, but I am concerned that not being able to add this service will only cause further issues when I reboot.

has it been renamed?

Code:
ls /usr/lib/systemd/system/lvm2-*
/usr/lib/systemd/system/lvm2-lvmetad.service
/usr/lib/systemd/system/lvm2-lvmetad.socket
/usr/lib/systemd/system/lvm2-monitor.service

EDIT:
apparently it has. got this from another thread "systemctl enable lvm2-monitor.service"

now I just have to figure out why I cannot get the initramfs to load the Root block device.

EDIT2: Solution was to ditch genkernel and use Dracut with the LVM module
following this post saved me a ton of heartache once I wrapped my head around it.

make sure you install networkmanager with systemd (assuming you have not set the gnome desktop system profile and if your not going to use plymouth then make sure you add USE=" -plymouth" before emerging dracut.
