Hello all!

After upgrading from Gnome 2.3 to the new 3.8 version (of course following the upgrade guide) I am unable to login. GDM starts but the screen doesn´t have fields for username/password.

How can I start to debug this problem?

Regards!

I'm having the exact same issue and am in the process of trying to track down the problem. The main thing that I've come up with is that OpenRC is still being used and Systemd is having issues connecting to the dbus. I'll post more as I find out more.

I have exactly the same issue:

My temporary workaround is to use lightdm instead of gdm.

Try removing ~/.config/dconf

It is a problem of gdm itself before any user has a chance to login (enter username).

i used eselect profile desktop

[3] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop *

emerge gdm v3 from the GNOME/gdm wiki, and did not experience this, with gnome working fine. as of like 4 days ago it worked well that way for me.

i use lilo and can easily switch between systemd and openrc per boot.

you could try masking gdm3 and rocking gdm2 as per the wiki... it works with openrc and systemd. no openrc for gdm3, it required systemd for me.

Emerging gnome-2.20.11-r1 will let me run GDM but I still can't load Gnome.
