# modprobe -r radeon
modprobe: FATAL: Module radeon is in use.
# modprobe fglrx
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'fglrx': Invalid argument

after a log google, problem seems to be:
  • 1, radeon(drm) conflict with fglrx, should not compile them or as Module
  • 2, kernel module sigature problem
  • 3, ati-drivers not fit new kernel

I try disable DRM/Radeon flag of kernel.config, but still compiled, is this caused by framebuffer/splash?
I try disable agpgart flag, but agp still compiled. this APU doesnt need any agp/pcie support.
about this: fglrx: Unknown symbol , ofcz I have enabled all SIG flag in kernel.config, but still errors.

may fix the problem, but i need them:
1, disable splash
2, using amd.catalyst package instead of portage.ati-drivers

UPDATE1:
genkernel.conf: SPLASH="no"
kernel.config: DRM/RADEON is not set
but drm still compiled (after rm by my hand)

UPDATE2:
use default kernel config by livecd, rebuild, re-emerge ati-drivers. same fail as before.

UPDATE3:
try install amd's catalyst driver, fail too with bad arguments

thanks for any help.....

should i move this topic to "Kernel & hardware" ?

I've mistakenly compiled the OSS drivers as well as have fglrx, they seem to work OK.

How much of ACPI do you have compiled and in modules?

What graphics processor do you have, is it too new for fglrx?

ACPI:

GPU is ATI-HD5310.
It works well with ati-drivers, at least for my last install a few month ago.

Do you have AGP enabled in the kernel?

Code:
CONFIG_AGP=m
CONFIG_AGP_AMD64=m
CONFIG_AGP_INTEL=m

config now not set
Code:
# CONFIG_AGP is not set

but genkernel build it
Code:
# lsmod | grep agp
agpgart                17957  2 drm,ttm

I have tried both agpgart on/off yesterday.

UPDATE 6:
by blacklist, radeon nerver loaded.
Code:
echo  "blacklist radeon" > /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

but fglrx still modprobe fail, so this is nothing to do with radeon.

UPDATE 7:
by advise from irc, i change fglrx to radeon.
startx success, but 3d performance bad.
Radeon always crash for TTM out of memery when run game more than 400M.
then i add swap, when radeon raquire mem more than 1G, i know this is not mem problem, it's bug.

So, radeon is ok for desktop and games less than 100M. but not for me.

UPDATE 8:

after days of dig. i guess this maybe 2 reasons:
1, my kernel config error
2, fglrx dismatch kernel version.

i'v tried too many different config for kernel (my sdd died for that)

gentoo ati-driver version is 13.9, amd's newest is 13.12(just released 2014.1.10).
both fail.

i'll try :
1, change gentoo from x86 to amd64
2, try lower kernel version , lower fglrx version

then, i'll give up.

UPDATE 9:
amd64 install, nothing changed, fglrx still fail, but line less, agp error fixed.
what i'v done? what to do?
Code:
[   25.191370] fglrx: module license 'Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies, Starnberg, GERMANY' taints kernel.
[   25.191376] Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint

UPDATE 10:
it seems no problems for symbols.
