|
|
Hi, I am using a Ubuntu Live CD to install gentoo and mirrorselect didn't work (it said command not found). Anyways, I've set both (gentoo mirror and rsync) manually but when I try to run "emerge --sync" I get this:
Code: | (ch) ubuntu / # emerge --sync --quiet
@ERROR: Unknown module 'metadata'
rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1516) [Receiver=3.0.9]
>>> Retrying...
>>> Starting retry 1 of 12 with rsync://rsync.us.gentoo.org
^C
Exiting on signal 2 |
The only way it worked was disabling the rsync mirror. What do I do now? How do I fix this?
Thanks and sorry for the bad english.
EDIT: btw I let all the retries and still didn't work
EDIT2: just read it is safe to continue from here but I still want to fix it
EDIT3: now it is working, I am such a noob lol |

Are you able to post what you did wrong should anybody stumble across the same problem they know how to fix it?
Also if you have extracted the portage snapshot then you can emerge mirrorselect and then use mirrorselect without having the gentoo livecd |

moisespedro,
The Ubuntu Live CD will not provide mirrorselect and its not in your chroot until you emerge it.
There is no need to set either gentoo mirror or rsync. The defaults may be suboptimal but they work.
Remove both entries from make.conf then run Inspect the output for gentoo mirror and rsync _________________ Regards,
