Hi there.
I have read some threads about it but no one could solve my problem. Trying set the background using xterm I can see errors:
Quote:
miro@localhost ~ $ fbsetbg -f pict0003.jpg
Esetroot: Unable to load image file "pict0003.jpg".
miro@localhost ~ $ Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
^C
miro@localhost ~ $ Esetroot -scale pict0003.jpg
Esetroot: Unable to load image file "pict0003.jpg".

Any suggestions?

Do you have media-gfx/feh installed? fbsetbg often doesn't work without it.

It's been years since I last used Gentoo but I seem remember that "String to FontSet" warning being annoying but not really affecting anything.

Just to ask an obvious question, can you view the image file in question in your browser or any other program capable of displaying a jpeg file?

If not on your Gentoo box, how about on another machine?

I can see the picture in my browser. It is new installation and up to now I have installed only gqview and it does not see .jpg files. Should I install something?

You should check the USE flags for gdk-pixbuf and imlib (don't know what the g* stuff use to load images nowadays). You are probably missing the jpeg support in one or both of these. You probably should just set USE="jpeg png" globally and then "emerge -auDvN world" and won't have to worry about this again.
