i tried the LDFLAGS="/lib64/libm.so.6" emerge gnome-media also gives sae error
what package makes libm.so.6?

As it seems that several bugs are being reported with various packages.
This is the way that others have gotten past the error.

the volume control deprecated but works with alsa mixer

For future reference, LDFLAGS understand -L, -l, -R and a few other flags.
It doesn't understand a full path including the full library name.
