Hi everybody,

I'm thinking of about trying out Gentoo but I have 1 question:
Of all desktops, Cinnamon I like the most. And according to the Cinnamon website, it can be installed under Gentoo. At this moment i'm using Mint 16 + Cinnamon and I found out that Cinnamon has a hugh memory leak problem. I wonder if any Gentoo user here has Cinnamon installed and has the same issue regarding memory leakages or usage.

Thanks!

Well gentoo is a souce based distro. If there are such memory leaks in the source code they will be in your distro of choice and of course in gentoo too as long they are not fixed with a patch or in a newer release of the source code.

Code:
localhost asus_oled # eix cinnamon
* gnome-extra/cinnamon
     Available versions:  1.8.8.1-r1 {+bluetooth +networkmanager PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python2_6 python2_7" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_6 python2_7"}
     Homepage:            http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/
     Description:         A fork of GNOME Shell with layout similar to GNOME 2

Well above you can see the current available version of cinnamon.

The current version of cinnamon is 1.8.8.1-r1. Which means 1.8.8.1.

I usually use the gentoo specific command called eix to search for the current version, as provided above.

you can use several webpages too, e.g.:
http://gpo.zugaina.org/gnome-extra/cinnamon

Please consider to only look at this line only: Overlay: gentoo (distro)

Gentoo support Overlays and this websearch displays any available packages in any Overlay. For the start please stick to just plain gentoo.
