I'm sure this is down to faaulty configuraation, but, when I boot, I'm getting
Jul 26 13:25:52 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-1
Jul 26 13:25:52 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-2
Jul 26 13:25:52 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-3
Jul 26 13:25:52 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-4
Jul 26 13:25:52 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-5
Jul 26 13:25:52 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-6
Jul 26 13:25:52 [modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-7
I only have one soundcard and that's all that's in /etc/modules.d/alsa (intel8x0) so how do I get rid of this message? I've been unable to find a solution elsewhere, so help would be much appreciated.
Sound does work fine, by the way!
Thanks.

I was having the same problem, and I found something that helped me in the Tips n Tricks board here on gentoo forums. I don't remember the exact words, and I'm lazy, so you'll have to look for yourself |

Many thanks b-llwyd - found it and problem now solved.
Add the following to the end of /etc/modules.d/alsa:
options snd snd_cards_limit=1
