Gnome-3.8 and systemd at the same time is hara-kiri for a newbie.

This is true only when it is about updating (the world).
However it is sad, that there is no easy way to bypass Gnome3 and stay with Gnome2 or MATE/Cinammon.

We have to trust upstream devs ;)

This I meant: In the forums now many stable users hitting this with all of the problems at the same time: Why not first try systemd before garbling the desktop gui also ...
Trying systemd in parallel with having openrc is no problem. It is adviced to keep openrc! You have to explicitly add an init=...systemd parameter in the grub kernel cmdline.

If you don't like systemd:

There are alternatives for those who were used Gnome2: If the label "Gnome" has not a spell on you :)

I just wanted to say this to all those people who are lazily using Gentoo:
Blindly do what emerge update world suggests to do !?
No! Not this time!
