I've upgraded gnome 2.32 to 3.8 but many problems are now in my system.

The most important is a login problem: as user I can't login, as root i can login only with startx after log in xorg.

emerge --info

What's the actual problem when you try to log in?

The only issue I had was that didn't update my pam configuration file; after merging the new file everything worked fine. However, your issue may be altogether different. The symptoms of this were a black screen with a working cursor.

Have you used "gnome-base/gnome-light" meta package by any chance?
Using this led me to some problems too, but emerging "gnome-base/gnome" and removing some crucial gnome files and directories from my home directory before first login, solved the case.

Can you please post your pam conf file?

I have the same problem, among the others...
