I've made a huge update of my system and now it's not possible to login in Gnome3.8.

The system loads well and the graphic interfacer is working, I can see the Gnome windonw displaying date and time. If I press and key o hover the mouse then some "arrow effect" shows up but then the date-time display doesn't scroll up so I can type my password.

It's a laptop and touchpad seems to work; using a regular mouse brought no help.

Any suggestions?

Greetings.

I had a similar problem after upgrading to GNOME 3.8; the system would boot directly to the desktop without a login prompt, and all that was present was a panel with the date/time and an accessibility menu.

I fixed it by enabling GDM. Assuming your system is set up properly (i.e., after following the GNOME 3.8 and systemd guides), you may be able to use the same solution.

Enter the following command at a terminal as root. You may need to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 after boot to get to a login prompt first.

Code:
# systemctl enable gdm.service

Then reboot. GDM should then ask for your username and password.
