Looks like a liver transplant failed. More: http://goo.gl/Mxdfst

Not the most successful artist, but one of the more interesting things to come out of the Warhol sausage factory.

Better to have been a one hit wonder than a no hit wonder.

Oh, he had far more than one hit. My point was that he was more successful critically than in terms of pop chart success. One of my heroes, in fact, so I am not knocking his talent, only the fickle nature of the music industry.

His sense of humour, for instance, shines through when he was forced to provide a double album under contract. He therefore delivered over an hour of unaccompanied guitar feedback.

Quote:
On its release, it was reviewed in Rolling Stone magazine as sounding like "the tubular groaning of a galactic refrigerator" and as displeasing to experience as "a night in a bus terminal". In the 1979 Rolling Stone Record Guide, critic Billy Altman said it was "a two-disc set consisting of nothing more than ear-wrecking electronic sludge, guaranteed to clear any room of humans in record time."

The music industry is certainly ugly, but a double-album doesn't exactly sound like an unreasonable contract.

There's a story of Tom Petty having stolen some original recordings and having drive around with them so he couldn't be found. I forget what he was trying to force the label to do. Whatever it was, I believe he "won."

As for Reed, I'm only familiar with the one hit.

He was another one of those artists that's death took me off guard, because I had assumed that he was dead years ago. RIP.
