I have mpd running (launched from my ~/.xinitrc). ncmpcpp works just fine. But when I try to control mpd with mpc from the command-line (or keybindings), I get "error: Connection closed by the server."

I made no modifications to /etc/mpd.conf. My ~/.mpdconf is thus:

log_file "~/.mpd/log"
pid_file "~/.mpd/pid"
state_file "~/.mpd/state"
sticker_file "~/.mpd/sticker.sql"

Any suggestions?
