Hi there,

finally it's possible to install the distribution of choice on a Zyxel NSA325, after a problem with a nasty watchdog timer was resolved, which rebootet the NAS every 20 seconds.

Ok, I got arch without bigger problems installed (NFS, Apache, MySQL running). But I would feel better to install a Gentoo on that thing. qemu-user seems a good option for that. Had in the past tried a pure cross-compiling, which didn't really work. With other architectures and cross-compiling I don't have any experience. It's a new area to me.

Let's start with: Embedded handbook
  • The binfmt stuff is configured.
  • After applying this Patch qemu-user I was able to install qemu-user.
  • But chroot fails:

Code:
chroot . /bin/busybox mdev -s
chroot: failed to run command '/bin/busybox': No such file or directory

Busybox is available in both: /bin/busybox as well as ..../Zyxel_ARM/bin/busybox.

What did I do wrong?

One next little step:

http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Crossdev_qemu-static-user-chroot

I tried for a couple days to get this to compile with static libs. Turns out there are come issues with glib that prevent it. However, debian provides one that'll do nicely.

8O

Nevertheless the write below:
Code:
ROOT=$PWD/ emerge -K qemu-user

The chroot-lines are the same. Are those guys really using their own handbook?
