I'm running gentoo under vmware fusion. The problem I have is that when I hit Ctrl-command to release my mouse from the vm, it cycles to what appears to be a kernel log terminal. This is a real pain as I then have to repeatedly click the vm window and hit ctrl-command over and over until it returns to the main terminal.
I've tried commenting out all of the terminals in /etc/inittab except c1, but it still cycles on ctrl-command. These really don't appear to be the terminals you get when hitting alt-f1-f6 as you don't get a logon prompt on any of them.
Does anyone know how to disable this feature in gentoo. My debian vm, doesn't do this, so I'm assuming it's a gentoo specific thing.

Set the VM to use the right Control Key instead of the left. In Virtualbox this is File > Preferences > Input. I'm pretty sure vmware has an equal setting. _________________ The Birth and Growth of Science is the Death and Atrophy of Art -- Unknown

Good suggestion, but unfortunately, it's not currently possible to disable or even change the "ungrab mouse and keyboard" shortcut in fusion. According to a post in 2008, vmware was looking into it, but nothing's changed as of yet.

may i suggest aqemu... qemu/kvm kernel based virtualization. uses hardware. its sexier than virtual box but a touch more difficult, especially if you're trying to host servers with it. or publish vms for other machines to run.... both instances id choose vbox... virtualbox is open source. its a great package. |

Actually, I've found that if I just hit CMD-TAB it breaks me out of the fusion window without changing the virtual terminal. That's sufficient for now. I'll have a look at the qemu and virtualbox.
