Wow! That is kind of discovery! Why just consolekit and not adobe reader? Adobe reader is also nice program. _________________ Lefsha |

OpenRC requires access to PAM and the plugdev group. IIRC PAM attaxhes itself to consolekit only. _________________ The Birth and Growth of Science is the Death and Atrophy of Art -- Unknown

I think lefsha's point was the phrase "you must". There is absolutely no "must" for pam or consolekit. You "must" use these things only if you want to use fancy authentification methods or certain questionable features like "fast user switching" (or if you want to use programs which without any need depend on these two programs). Fortunately, it is (currently) perfectly possible to run a reasonable system using openrc without having pam, consolekit/systemd-equivalent, or any *kit-stuff installed (by just replacing the broken programs which unconditionally depend on these tools by something which behaves reasonable). |

Oh! Every day news... Talking this way we can end up with the phrase, that openrc requires systemd to work properly...
Of course you are totally wrong! I will leave you to discover why by yourself. OK? _________________ Lefsha |

Without mention my name this text must be part of gentoo handbook. Otherwise we all will end up with systemd dependence for adobe reader. I am not kidding, just read this thread. _________________ Lefsha |
