I've tried copying from a stage3, installing chrooted intoa stage3 with ROOT=/mnt/realroot, and nothing is working.
I don't know what is broken, so I'm calling out for help.

Do not set LDFLAGS if you do not understand what they do. Code: | configure:4119: i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -O2 -march=atom -pipe -ggdb1 -ggdb1 -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,-ggdb1 conftest.c >&5
/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.7.3/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: invalid BFD target `1' |
