okay, but the handbook provides installation steps for gentoo minimal.
It doesn't say anything for liveDVD apart from
"Every 6 months (give or take), a special DVD is crafted by the Gentoo Ten project which can be used to install Gentoo with too. The instructions further down this chapter target the Minimal Installation CDs so might be a bit different. However, the LiveDVD (or any other bootable Linux environment) supports getting a root prompt by just invoking sudo su - or sudo -i on a terminal."

The installation medium does not matter, as long as it allows you to chroot and has the same bitness as your desired Gentoo installation.
I think, however, that you want to install the LiveDVD, like you would do with Ubuntu or Mint. There are ways, but it is not recommended.
You're supposed to open a terminal window in your live environment and then follow the steps in the link nemectic provided.

Okay got the point upto "Preparing the disks" from the handbook.
what after that? the handbook next guides to installation by installing a stage 3 tarball from internet.
what for the liveDVD image? what to do after mounting? (note: i used handbook (link) commands upto mounting) |

The LiveDVD is just a bootable Live Gentoo Linux demonstator which is not installable, rather like e.g. a Knoppix LiveCD.
The LiveDVD is essentially irrelevant as far as installation to a hard drive is concerned. It (and the Gentoo Minimal Installation CD) is essentially just a means of providing a Live Linux environment to enable you to download files via the Internet and issue commands in a console. It does not have any files on it that are installed to your hard drive. It does not have any applications on it that install Gentoo from it to your hard drive. It has no installer on it. With Gentoo, you are the installer, and the files you install via console commands are downloaded to your machine from the Internet and compiled (or recompiled) on your machine. That is why almost any LiveDVD could be used to do the job. For example, I didn't bother downloading the Gentoo Minimal Installation CD ISO or the Gentoo LiveDVD ISO; I booted a SystemRescueCD LiveCD, used GParted on it to partition and format the hard drive, opened a console window and installed Gentoo by following the remaining steps in the Gentoo Handbook.
In the case of distributions such as Fedora, openSUSE, Ubuntu, Sabayon etc. the LiveDVD has an installer application on it that creates and formats the partitions on your hard drive and copies files from the LiveDVD to your hard drive. With Gentoo that is not the case.
