Is each version of btrfs tied to that specific kernel or are the updates to btrfs patched to other kernel revisions?

I'm curious to utilize btrfs on my WD MyBook Live when the kernel revision is 2.6.32.60.. but I don't want to risk corruption or issues.

As long as the disk format is "unstable" it's always a risk... But I'm sure the btrfs devs will try to make sure that newer kernels will read older disks as much as possible...
As usual, backup before trying.

2.6.32 is a very old kernel for btrfs. When using it, you should stick always with latest kernel version posible.

Yes, I know 2.6.32 is a very old kernel.. Unfortunately, I can only utilize 2.6.32.x for this embedded device (WD MyBook Live).

I think I'll just stick with ext4.
