I have an Intel core i7-3770 cpu with built in HD4000 graphics.
It has been working really good until I upgraded to the latest stable kernel (3.10.7) from 3.8.13. Now suddenly the kernel crashed hard on boot, on graphics initialization. I was going to post a question here but I think I found the solution myself so I'll post that instead, maybe it'll help someone else.
The problem seems to be that I had set the shared memory for the graphics to a fixed 1024 MB in the UEFI settings, apparently the new kernel doesn't like that. When I changed that to 'auto' or 512 MB the crash went away.
So there you have it. 1024 MB fixed graphics memory allocation does not work in kernel 3.10.
(btw: my motherboard is an ASRock Z77 Extreme6) |
