Splash switching to VT1

Hi,

I had a working setup with xdm (kdm). I added splash (using genkernel) which also works fine but at boot time kdm shows for a few seconds after which the display switches back to VT1. If I switch back to VT7 I can continue working of course but it is rather annoying. Anyone have an idea where I can start looking? Google didn't help me...
