Hello,
I reinstalled a fresh system some days ago, and i'm having some minor problems. I must say that i'm using a rt kernel, however i doubt it's the thing generating threats here. I'm posting in this section because i ran into several kind of problems who(se ?) belong to different sections.
I'm using lxde with xdm.
1. When i want to switch to tty 1-6 once i'm logged, my screen turns black, nothing is displayed, not even the login prompt, i can't come back to my graphical session, and i can't shutdown by pressing the power button, it seems like acpi is disabled at that moment. However, i can switch terminals without any issue if i'm not logged yet.
2. Once every 6 or 7 boots, my keyboard is frozen at login phase and i have to reboot. Any clue about what could cause this ?
3. In my previous setup, i wasn't using the evdev packages except for the touchpad, and my mouse and keyboard were working fine so far. Now, i had to install the relevant packages because my mouse and my kb wouldn't work even when using my old X.org config. Could this be because of a "faulty" kernel setup of mine ?
4. Now a question more rt oriented, concerning rtirq. It seems like it's not asserting the right priorities at start, until i restart it manually. Could it be because it is in the default runlevel ?
Thanks in advance for the tips !

Thanks for your answer.
I tried one seed, and attempted to use my old x.org conf with it. I was unable to use my keyboard and get angry at evdev, so i'm back to my previous setup.
I don't experience keyboard freezes since i'm using ethernet (wlan before) and dhcpcd does the work at boot before i have to login, unlike with wlan. Go figure. I don't get at all how it could be related but it's the only thing that changed which came into my mind.
The ttys problem is adobe-flash related. I get stuck in a terminal if i'm listening/watching/doing something needing flash stuff. I'm using opera.
For rtirq, let's say that restarting it each time i boot isn't such a big deal.
Also, my software clock is setting itself to CEST. How do i fix it ? |

Don't use your old xorg.conf. In fact, don't use one at all unless you NEED to tweak specific hardware. It's increasingly uncommon to need an xorg.conf at all these days.
As for evdev, if it's giving you trouble, just go back to using the keyboard and mouse input drivers. Use whatever works.
Flash has never been a good thing. Convenient, maybe, but not actually good software. What version are you using?
Getting your system's time right should be as simple as doing
Code: |
cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/(your_time_zone) /etc/localtime
|
Additionally, you should install net-misc/ntp and do
Code: |
rc-update add ntp-client default
|
To keep your clock accurate. _________________ decibel Linux: https://decibellinux.org

Well, now I am just using some config files starting with numbers, like 50-synaptics.conf, which have been automatically added when I installed the drivers.
I'm using flash version 11.2.202.297-r1.Not that I really need ttys 1-6, but it had me wondering why they weren't working sometimes.
I have allready done this for the system time, and it didn't help. It's not that much of a problem anyway.
Those problems are really minor anyway so I won't be really bothered with them, since the rest of the system is doing pretty fine. Thanks for your help |
