I thought that the £80 million (€93.9 million, $100 million) deal for Manchester United's Ronaldo would stand for years and years but it looks increasingly likely that Real are going to pay £86 million (€100million, $134million) for Tottenham's Gareth Bale.

In today's financial climate some are saying it's obscene but then football has never really gone along with the rest of that.

Also does this make a mockery of the Financial Fair Play rules?

Bale's camp had already worked out a package with Madrid that meant he would sign a six-year contract, with an annual salary close to €10m a year net, or £8.5m. That would take the cost of the total package for Madrid above €200m (£172m).

Is £300,000 a week too much to pay a player?

As long as there is no coercion on either side, and as long as no tax dollars are involved, who am I to say how much anyone should make?

Oh yeah, it's just that we think that $467,000 a year is a lot of money - let alone a month or a week. And someone is worth what someone is willing to pay (for) them

Exactly. And fans support higher and higher wages. Stop supporting them, and wages will not increase as much or even go down.
