Hi all,
I have a strange problem. I'm using alsa and pulseaudio. My machine is used by me and my daughter. However while I can use audio, my daughter's account can't. One week ago, she could use it. What has been changed?

For reference emerge --info is
Code:
 emerge --info

and /etc/asound.conf is
Code:

$ cat /etc/asound.conf
pcm.pulse {
    type pulse
    }
    ctl.pulse {
        type pulse
   }
   pcm.!default {
       type pulse
       }
       ctl.!default {
           type pulse
      }
(sorry for strange indentation)
and both users have no ~/.asoundrc file.

What's wrong? pulseaudio daemons are running for each user.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a permissions problem, I'm not a pulseaudio user myself, is there a group for pulseaudio users?

Jaglover,

Thank you for your reply. There are groups "pulse" and "pulse-access", but users don't have to belong to these groups. Users who use audio must have only "audio" group. And it worked one week ago...... sigh

Why don't you try and add her into those groups?

I checked USE flags with the wiki and it's ok. I emerged with acl USE flag as wiki says. But somehow from my account (I can use audio) getfacl returns like this.
Code:
$ getfacl /dev/snd/controlC0
getfacl: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names
# file: dev/snd/controlC0
# owner: root
# group: audio
user::rw-
group::rw-
mask::rw-
other::---
ie, my id is missing from user though I can use audio. Is it ok?

Finally, I got it to work!

I erased ~/.pulse-cookie and ~/.pulse directory and all went well.

Thank you very much!
