Hey guys,

Decided today to install Gentoo, but I have already run into a bit of trouble. It is my understanding that you need an active Internet connection to install Gentoo, the problem is I don't know how to connect to our wireless network. I ran ifconfig and some really weird stuff came up, instead of the usual eth0, wlan0 it comes up with the somewhat random enp2s0 and wlp0s18f2u6.
I assume that wlp0s18f2u6 is my USB wireless adapter (D-Link DWA-125). The wireless network uses WEP 128bit encryption.

Can any of you guys tell me how to get connected?

Note: Using a minimal installation cd.

Thank you for your time

up to first 2 lines of step 3.....

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Alternate_Install

I'm going to eventually make something more Gentoo specific using sysrescuecd instead of ubuntu/debian variants. i also have worked through this with adjustments for btrfs on a test virtual machine. id really like to get more flavors to gentoo going also, but have many projects running at once.

Solved the problem, rebooted and the adapter was recognised as wlan0 and I was able to connect.
Thanks anyway.
