When I run dropbox with fluxbox in Ubuntu, I see a little icon in the status area.

It's pretty handy, because I can verify whether all my files are synced or not. But when I tried the same thing in Gentoo (fluxbox + dropbox), I'm not able to make the icon to show up. How should I proceed from here?

If I use the CLI tool, I can definitely check the current Dropbox status. But I'm not sure it's also supposed to show the icon on Fluxbox's status area, because I just can't make it work.

I think there might be a better way to handle it, but at least the following worked for me.

1) "emerge -v dropbox dropbox-cli". Make sure to use "X" USE flag.

2) DROPBOX_USERS is your Gentoo, not Dropbox, account name.

Code:
/etc/conf.d/dropbox
    DROPBOX_USERS="ACCOUNT_NAME"

3) Start X Window and run "/opt/bin/dropbox" from your account, not root.

4) Follow along with your Dropbox registration in the graphical interface. It might complain that "Dropbox is running from an unsupported location," but once you click "Don't Ask Again" button, it won't bother you anymore.

5) Now Dropbox icon is showing in Fluxbox status area. Use "dropbox-cli status" if you want to check the status from console.

6) Add "dropbox" in "~/.fluxbox/startup" to start Dropbox automatically.
