I noticed the other day that gcc-4.6.3 and 4.7.3 are now being emerged as a single thread. It works but takes a lot longer
Code:
genlop -t gcc
 * sys-devel/gcc
    Mon May  6 11:29:12 2013 >>> sys-devel/gcc-4.6.3
       merge time: 16 minutes.

     Fri May 10 12:17:02 2013 >>> sys-devel/gcc-4.6.3
       merge time: 14 minutes and 51 seconds.

     Sat May 11 22:11:37 2013 >>> sys-devel/gcc-4.6.3
       merge time: 14 minutes and 51 seconds.

     Sat May 18 22:28:09 2013 >>> sys-devel/gcc-4.6.3
       merge time: 15 minutes and 27 seconds.

     Mon May 20 11:05:39 2013 >>> sys-devel/gcc-4.6.3
       merge time: 14 minutes and 13 seconds.

     Sun May 26 13:41:59 2013 >>> sys-devel/gcc-4.6.3
       merge time: 57 minutes and 41 seconds.

     Sun May 26 17:46:55 2013 >>> sys-devel/gcc-4.7.3
       merge time: 1 hour, 19 minutes and 18 seconds.

     Tue Aug 13 13:15:03 2013 >>> sys-devel/gcc-4.7.3
       merge time: 1 hour, 17 minutes and 44 seconds.

Last weekend I traced this behavior to "/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.7.3/temp/environment".
Code:
sudo grep -n -A1 -B1 "\-j1" temp/environment
2457-    if [[ ${GCC_MAKE_TARGET} == "profiledbootstrap" ]] || use_if_iuse boundschecking; then
2458:        export MAKEOPTS="${MAKEOPTS} -j1";
2459-    fi;

I edited the environment file and used "emake" to build and it worked. Is there a way to do this with out hacking around?
