i was missing subtitles, and volume with out fontconfig.... i bet your problem is also caused from no fontconfig use being set.
if that doesnt do it, ctl + L = playlist mode. |

vlc id3 tag information is what you want changed... im looking, because i only get track also. upstream is useless........
ok, top right of vlc is a search box... to the left of it is a "change view" and that will give artist info.
