I want to make all the big package as binary file so that my slow laptop can update fastly. but I can not emerge the binary version of chromium. i.e.,

Code:
ae429-3777  # emerge -av  www-client/chromium-bin

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "www-client/chromium-bin".

emerge: searching for similar names...
emerge: Maybe you meant any of these: www-client/chromium, www-client/firefox-bin, www-client/rekonq?

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? thanks!

Chromium is open source, Chrome is binary.

So you mean if we emerge **google-chrome **, then we are using the binary version?
I found there is a package called google-chrome

diablo465,

That is indeed what it means, kind of.

With Chrome, you get whatever Google added to Chromium. What exactly the differences are, you might want to research yourself (I never cared too much, since those browsers are certainly not for me).

Generally things such as tracking and privacy are probably the bits that are most mentioned, but I believe there is more.
