Hi,
finally did my first working install of the Gentoo.
Is it real that it takes 4.7GB of the HDD. Nothing fancy installed. Just necessary packages to start Xfce4 and Firefox, VLC.
I did the "eclean-dist --destructive". _________________ Everyday iBiker |

The biggest directories are probably /usr/portage (distfiles, binary packages and ebuilds) and /usr/src (kernel source and object files). On my system I have 70 packages in the world file (including LibreOffice and Firefox) but no desktop environment (I use Openbox). The space required on the partition is 7.7G. So I think your case is pretty typical.
EDIT: Congratulations for your first working Gentoo installation! |

My root directory contains an awful lot of applications, so isn't a useful
comparison, but /usr/portage is around 8G; it really does take up a
lot of space.
