Dualheading with Mac's screen

Hello guys,

In my new job they offered me a niiiiiice big mac computer to use as a workstation.
However, it is a mac. I was planning to give it a better use as a secondary screen for my laptop, which gracefully has Gentoo installed.

A quick search on Google reveals that most of windows people who tried this failed, apparently the its an hardware issue, its not possible to convert from one signal to the other without software magic.

Now... what about Linux? Do you guys have any experience with that? Should I bother trying?
