Suddenly last week, Okular is no longer able to open images (atleast jpegs). I don't recall any changes that would have caused this.

When I run it in terminal on any jpeg file I get the following:

Quote:
rich@area51 ~/My Pictures $ okular 10_09.JPG
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 14: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.
okular(17640)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(17640)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(17640)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(17640)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(17640)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(17640)/okular (app) Okular::Document::openDocument: No plugin for mimetype '"image/jpeg"'.

I rebuilt Okular and it does have the correct USE flags:
Quote:
area51 ~ # emerge -vp okular

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] kde-base/okular-4.12.5:4/4.12 USE="crypt jpeg pdf postscript tiff (-aqua) -chm -debug -djvu -ebook -handbook -mobi" 0 kB

revdep-rebuild shows no dependency issues. GIMP opens up the files no problem.

Any ideas?

A similar issue has been reported HERE
The solutions were:
1. rebuilding dolphin twice: first with jpeg USE flag disabled, then with jpeg USE flag enabled again;
2. if still doesn't work, try to rebuild the cache database of the MIME types handled by desktop files:
Code:
sudo update-desktop-database

Hope it helps...

Thanks kite14.

I tried the MIME database update last night when searching for a solution.

I am away from my apartment for the weekend, but I will try the solution you posted as soon as I get back and report the results.

Update:

I realized just now that my laptop also has the same issue so an update in the past few days must have caused this.

I tried the two fixes in the mentioned thread to no avail (and that should be okular, not dolphin, being re-emerged).

Not sure where to go from here.

Update 2:

I had a mostly-unused PC sitting in the basement that has not been updated in a few months. I did a quickpkg of okular-4.11.5 and installed it onto my laptop.

Worked like a charm. Looks like there is a bug in okular-4.12.5. Can anybody else confirm? I'm going to create a bug report since this happened on two separate amd64 computers with the latest round of updates.

Yes, of course it's okular to be rebuilt. I'm having trouble with dolphin myself and I messed up, sorry.

This has been corrected by the devs. Turns out to have been a compile-time bug.
