Everyone nominate 3 vocalists, give their bands, give a reason and an example and then we'll then discuss them and whittle the list down to 10 and vote on it. Remember, this is hard rock so no growlers, Chris Martins or Biebers. Also say which ones you agree with and give reasons to why other people's choices SHOULDN'T be on.

I'm going to choose 3 brits so I nominate:

1. Ozzy Osbourne. From "Black Sabbath" and "Ozzy Osbourne"
Reason: The guy that was the template for most of it of the hard rock and heavy metal that we hear now.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcoweoZ6jpM

2. Roger Daltrey. From "The Who"
Reason: Awesome vocal range. Part of the group that basically invented hard rock.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCNeVHv3Mlg

3. Brian Johnson. From "AC/DC"
Reason. Great Grizzly voice and never seems to take a breath
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAgnJDJN4VA

I agree with Ozzy And "Banshee" Johnson, Daltrey seems like "meh...", good but forgettable IMHO.

Now, for mine:

1. Ronnie James Dio. From "Black Sabbath", "Rainbow", "Heaven & Hell" and "Dio".
Reason: It's Dio, he was as metal as metal gets and, in my opinion, was a pleasure to listen to.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfGkR1CK9Vc

2. Geddy Lee. From "Rush".
Reason: It's Geddy Lee, from rush, if i can't have him, there's not point to this.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWLxT5OFcWg

3. Bruce Dickinson. From "Iron Maiden" and "Samson".
Reason: Awesome range, even more entertaining than Halford, Iron Maiden consistently bang out good songs.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsmcDLDw9iw

EDIT: Amended my list, for variety.

Brian Johnson can fuck off, Bon Scott all the way.

I'd say Robert Plant was a better candidate for hard rock, all yours seem to be metal which is fairly different.

Jesus Christ, Cokey. The music gods are crying right now because of your choices (aside from Ozzy).

How about some real vocalists.

Here's five to start : Robert Plant, David Gilmour, Dio, Roy Orbison, and Freddie Mercury.

I saw Ozzy and Brian Johnson and thought "fuck it".

@Muso: David Gilmour? I think he's a great guitarist, the second solo in "Comfortably Numb" is one of my favourites, but i'd say he's an average vocalist.

I consider Gilmour to be a brilliant rock vocalist.

Viddy well, ill brother. Viddy well.

Ozzy? Seriously? Black Sabbath is awesome (especially 1970-1975), but Ozzy as a vocalist sucks. Charismatic, but crappy voice. Dio was better.

One vote for Bruce Dickinson. This is for me the best heavy metal song ever. Just listen to that chilling "running loooooooooow" at 0:54-1:07.

Of course I'd vote for Freddie (he could be a fucking opera singer) but he doesn't enter in the hard rock category.

How can you leave out Robert Plant? He blows all three away.

Apart from Plant and Dio none of those are HARD rock singers. Mercury has probably the best singing voice in modern music but Hard Rock he wasn't... really. They did a few in their early years but largely they were plain old rock music and pop music

Or how about the word's greatest captain aside from Crunch, "&Tennille"?

Thought you'd have gone for Celine Dion.

Ozzy happens to be the only one that I've had exposure to
(aside from a *lot* of Queen). So my vote would go there

Instead of Annie Lennox, how about Joan Jett? Don't get me wrong, though, i like Annie Lennox, but she's more pop than rock.
