Hi Everyone,

What is the best option to create a file system on a multipath device.

create directly on device:
mkfs.ext3 /dev/dm-2

or create a partition with fdisk and than create filesystem?

I am asking this because i have create directly on device and the performance is much better this way.
What are the risks by creating ext3 directly on device?

Thank you in advanced.
Best Regards,
SM

Creating the filesystem on the device means that you can only put one filesystem on it. If you used partitions, you can have multiple filesystems, one per partition. If you need multiple filesystems, LVM is often a better choice than partitions.

No need for LVM. Only one filesystem.
My question is why i notice better performance using filesystem directly on device.
Thank You

Maybe your partitions weren't aligned correctly. Is this a 4k-sectors drive?
