Trying to switch. XDM is not starting at default, as per my order. Trying to be able to start GNOME from the CLI, gnome-session doesn't work. Using Nouveau drivers until I can get Nvidia drivers working. Any advice?

# grep DISPLAYMANAGER /etc/conf.d/xdm

What happens when you run;

# /etc/init.d/xdm start

Did you try startx?

As a regular user!

$ echo "exec gnome-session" > ~/.xinitrc
$ startx
