would someone be able to point me to
a place I can get a bios update
for my BenQ p54 joybook.
Preferably without using that other os
fAILING that can some one write an application that will
do this under linux.
It would be very much appreciated,
as I'm having hassles booting up.
The present bios won't recognise an ssd
or anything larger that 320G,which in my
area is now almost impossible to
obtain. |

BIOS Updates have to be provided by the vendor. It seems Benq has discontinued support for this product line, so finding a legitimate update will be difficult, maybe try contacting their support directly if they can help you.
Anyway, if the vendor supplied update requires Windows it's rarely possible to work around that. BIOS (or firmware) updates routines are very hardware specific and often include hacks that only the vendor is aware off. Trying to do this without vendor knowledge will likely result in a unusable system. |

sys-apps/flashrom supports updating most standard BIOS EEPROMs, but on the other hand this is an off-brand laptop so it might not have one of those. |
