|
|
Hello, new to these forums. Wasn't sure whether to post this in the install part of the forums, or here.
Anyways, wonder what the most kick ass use flags would be for a Gentoo environment without a DE, and awesome for a WM. also, I am slightly confused with the profile list, should I choose default 13.0 or desktop? I am not on a laptop, so desktop seems the way to go, but just wondering if that suits my awesome WM needs.
Thanks for the help |

Moved from Documentation, Tips & Tricks to Desktop Environments. DTT is meant for user-supplied documentation but although you don't want a DE I think you question belongs better in this forum as it also covers WMs.
For your profile I'd go with 13.0 desktop as you don't want to pull in any of the unnecessary Gnome/KDE stuff.
For your USE flags it's harder to give suggestions as this will depend on what you are planning on using your box for. It's good practice to check 'emerge -pv' to see which USE flags will be set and change them if required. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

Well for my system, all I would be doing, would be web browsing, watching media on mplayer2, making documents for school, and occasionally playing games. That is all I would be using my system for. |

I'm running awesome with 13.0/desktop but disabling -consolekit, -policykit, -ldap as I built my system as lightweight as possible.
Actually I did move recently to 13.0/non-multilib but I did keep the same USE flags from desktop profile.
It's running smoothly. |
