Hi, ALL,
I recently started working for the company that do a live TV streaming. They do it in Window$ with VLC and MediaPortal.
Now they are planning to move to Linux. Unfortunately I am no guru in TV streaming and have no idea what is required and how to set everything up.
Is there a simple how to on how to set a Linux server for TV streaming using VLC? I figure I need a working Linux OS, VLC itself and probably some broadcasting server - MediaPortal-like software - probably MythTV as it's very popular and probably have a closer interface to MP (completely guessing on this), which is already a good start.
I will be thankful for any points or links you can provide.
Thank you. |

Well, after typing "mediaportal" into my google search box, after reading your post, I am forced to wonder why you don't simply download the sources, and compile the program in linux itself.
As long as the requirements are met, it should run fine. I mean, it IS opensource, there is a link to get the sources at the top of the page.
It is also a program that they are familiar with, so training costs would be much lower porting it over than it would be having to teach everyone a new program.
Also, you can tailor the system that it runs on to be JUST what you need without alot of extra bells and whistles that are probably running in memory, but not used.
Just my 2 cents, and I'm not even sure I found the right program.

If you want proof of that, take a look at windows sometime. |

Knute,
Exactly because of this and this.
It is simply too much to handle in so little time.
People here are not afraid to learn if it will improve the current situation. But there is not much time to trying to fix all the issues that will comes up.
Besides I'm sure that the program itself will look ugly on Linux.
So, is there any pointers on how to set up live tv streaming on Linuix with either MythTV or any other server?
Thank you. |
