Hello everyone. Well today I decided to run an emerge depclean and that uninstalled wget. Now somethings will install but the majority of things won't.

For example xz-utils will install but expat-2 wont emerge at all. And both are complaining about not being able to find a makefile in /usr/src/linux. I checked and there was none in the directory, depclean did say it was going to remove the source, but I thought that it would not mess with the system so let it do its thing. So I am now rebuilding the kernel and hopefully going to get it working without wget.

First, make sure you always do emerge -p --depclean before doing emerge --depclean. Anything that looks like it should not be removed, or for that matter, anything you do not want removed, run emerge --noreplace (package), then check emerge -p --depclean again.

Second, can you emerge wget? You definitely need that. I'm surprised it was removed by depclean.

When I type emerge wget, it says it can't find a kernel source. The documentation did say to run emerge -p --depclean, but I was lazy :P.

Went to recompile the kernel with genkernel after doing a emerge gentoo-sources and there is no makefile. Went to /usr/src and my kernel and copied the makefile from there to /usr/src/linux.

I am now in the process of emerging wget.

I do not get a cannot find makefile error anymore but wget and other things won't compile still. I get emake failed for all of my emerges. Will post logs later, right now I am re-emerging glibc.

**edit

Just realized that there is no wgetpaste because of wget being gone, so tomorrow I will copy the log files to a USB and to the computer I am typing this on. I never installed a browser on that machine yet. glibc was able to install itself successfully.
