Hi,
I'm wondering what software should I use to read e-books?
I have installed Sigil.
It works perfectly but it is an e-book editor and sort of overkill for someone who only wishes to read an e-book.
What are your recommendations? What is the Gentoo way?
Thanks! |

I have installed Calibre:
Code: | # eix calibre
[I] app-text/calibre
Available versions: 0.9.27 (~)0.9.29 (~)0.9.30 {+udisks}
Installed versions: 0.9.30(11:52:21 13/05/13)(udisks)
Homepage: http://calibre-ebook.com/
Description: Ebook management application. |
but actually I prefer using EPUBReader, a no-frills Firefox add-on that works very well for my simple needs. _________________ Clevo W230SS: amd64, VIDEO_CARDS="intel modesetting nvidia".

Thanks, Fitzcarraldo!
I've installed and tried both and both are quite good!

I also use Calibre to manage my ebook library and do format conversions, etc. Also I guess once it's installed, since it includes an ebook reader, there's not that big an incentive to also install a standalone ebook reader. However, I did go ahead and install, [urlhttp://fbreader.org/]FBReader[/url], since I use the Android port as my main reader program on my Nexus 7. Funny thing is that the Android port is updated regularly, but not so much the Linux port. Plus the website claims;
Quote: | FBReader is a multi-platform e-book reader. Free for use, sources are available under the GPL. |
and;
Quote: | All the code of FBReader/FBReaderJ is copyrighted by Geometer Plus. |
I'm ignorant of the specifics, but can GPL code be copyrighted too? Anyway, it's a fine program.
Good Luck.. |
