I am trying to create a gentoo based livecd with catalyst, but I keep encountering errors when installing baselayout. In regards to the second error log, I checked /usr/portage/profiles in the chrooted system and it is empty. Here are the error logs:

Build log:
* Package: sys-apps/baselayout-2.2.0-r4
* Repository: gentoo
* Maintainer: funtoo
* USE: abi_x86_64 amd64 consolekit elibc_glibc kernel_linux multilib policykit userland_GNU
* FEATURES: preserve-libs sandbox
* Creating directories...
install: cannot change owner and permissions of '/var/lock': No such file or directory
* ERROR: sys-apps/baselayout-2.2.0-r4 failed (install phase):
* dodir failed
*
* If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=sys-apps/baselayout-2.2.0-r4'`,
* the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=sys-apps/baselayout-2.2.0-r4'`.
* The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/sys-apps/baselayout-2.2.0-r4/temp/build.log'.
* The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/sys-apps/baselayout-2.2.0-r4/temp/environment'.
* Working directory: '/var/tmp/portage/sys-apps/baselayout-2.2.0-r4/work/baselayout-2.2.0-r4'
* S: '/var/tmp/portage/sys-apps/baselayout-2.2.0-r4/work/baselayout-2.2.0-r4'

OUTPUT OF localhost / # emerge -pqv '=sys-apps/baselayout-2.2.0-r4'

!!! /etc/portage/make.profile is not a symlink and will probably prevent most merges.
!!! It should point into a profile within /usr/portage/profiles/
!!! (You can safely ignore this message when syncing. It's harmless.)

!!! Your current profile is invalid. If you have just changed your profile
!!! configuration, you should revert back to the previous configuration.
!!! Allowed actions are limited to --help, --info, --search, --sync, and
!!! --version.

Thank You for your help.

EEfw23 ... there's your problem.

This means either the link is missing, or the profile linked to is invalid.

similarly, your profile either doesn't point to a file, or is invalid.

As this is funtoo you should ask on the funtoo forums and/or file a bug report on funtoo's bug tracker. I've request the thread be moved to unsuported software.

best ... khay

Also, funtoo has a different profile system that is not compatible with catalyst.

Moved from Portage & Programming to Unsupported Software, questions related to Funtoo are not officially supported.
