Hi,
for quite some time I am struggling with a font problem that I don't know how to debug.
xorg-server is currently 1.14.1, please let me know if package versions of other packages are relevant.
I use the same configuration on another system, everything is okay there.
Some characters are not shown correctly, e.g. ⁴, but ² and ³ work normally, also ⅓ does not work, but ½ and ¼ work. The ellipsis … is broken too. I get an empty rectangle instead of the character in rxvt-unicode, empty space in uxterm. pterm displays all characters correctly.
terminus and fixed behave identically, so it's not the font itself.
Any hints very welcome. |

Hello,
do you use the US keymap? Is the problem the same if you reload it
It is possible that Pterm is not in the same mode as Rxvt-unicode and Uxterm, so, not in UTF-8. Does it work with an Xterm without UTF-8 support?
In X as in virtuals terminals, the encoding (ASCII, ISO*, UTF*, etc) in witch a file is encoded can change the output in a terminal. Even if the terminal and the font support UTF-8, if for example, a man page is encoded in ISO-8859-1, the output could prevent some characters from being displayed correctly. So displaying a file correctly suppose it is encoded in the same encoding than the terminal and the font support. In plus, the font must be able to display all the characters required.
Your problem look more related with encoding than the keymap, if using the keyboard, the pressed keys display are ok in Pterm. But the font in use for the encoding could have something to do too. Some fonts do not support some characters regardless their encoding. _________________ Paul |
